I have been loving the snow and winter walks, but my thoughts are turning to spring. This state of mind was helped along by a message from my friend Cindy, alerting me to the textures and actions available from Paint the Moon. I couldn’t resist trying them out on some iris I photographed last spring. First, of course, I couldn’t resist buying them!
I’ve seen spring flowers in Nashville in February in years past, and we’re only 2-1/2 weeks from February. I refuse to think about the ice storm we had in February that knocked out power, including ours, in most of Nashville for a week.
I post today’s photo as an illustration of the beauty of infrared photography, a salute to the artist who created such an appealing garden, and as an illustration of the dilemma of choosing all the right camera equipment that might eventually be wanted on any given photography excursion. As beautiful as this garden is in infrared light, the vision of it in color was perfection, and I only had the infrared camera with me! The Irises, the first I’ve seen blooming this spring, were dark purple against the riot of lavender Phlox that spilled over the wall. This garden is on Holly St. in East Nashville.
The January freeze in 2009 inspired me to paint a photograph of an Iris using various brushes in Corel Painter.
